Forum for Local Action on Energy Efficient Behaviour

Nos Gestes Climat

The project incourages to challenge the people around you to get involved in helping the planet. It is possible to create a group of friends and take on a collective challenge to reduce your footprint. Compare your results, track your progress and see who manages to reduce their carbon emissions or water consumption the most. You can also launch a campaign in your organisation. Businesses, local authorities, associations, schools or festivals can get the organisation involved in a sustainable approach with an Nos Gestes Climat campaign. The campaign tools can also be used to raise your stakeholders' awareness of your carbon and water footprints.

A reliable calculation model is based on ADEME data. All the expertise of the French Agency for Ecological Transition is used in the Nos Gestes Climat calculator: data, outlook, levers for action. The lines of code, the data and even much of the methodological thinking behind the calculator are all accessible, allowing anyone to contribute and improve the tool.

Introduction

It is possible to calculate your carbon and water footprints in just 10 minutes on nosgestesclimat.fr, and 2.5 million people have already calculated their footprint. One calculator covers two footprints. The carbon footprint represents the quantity of greenhouse gases emitted by human activities. The carbon footprint calculator helps you to identify the uses that contribute most to climate change and to choose the most effective actions to reduce your impact. The water footprint measures the total amount of water used to produce the goods and services we consume. Unlike domestic water, it includes the invisible water needed to grow our food, make our clothes and produce energy. The project started in December  2020, and still continues.

Behavioural insights

Nos Gestes Climat believes in the power of collective action to meet environmental challenges by raising awareness and helping everyone - citizens, businesses and local authorities - to better understand their ecological, carbon and water footprints, to identify the steps they can take to reduce them and to involve those around them in this movement.
